Everything happens for a reason??

Everything happens for a reason or does it?

This is a highly debated topic that everything happens for a reason, some of us believe that the choices that we make and the things that happen to us throughout our lives happen for a reason, as if our lives were planned out this way,
then there are others who think the total opposite and that its all just coincidence that things happen.

I still don't really know what i think

Things happen to us everyday, once i was on a train to a new place and the train broke down meaning i was very late to my destination, meaning that when i arrived there i was placed somewhere completely different, if i had made the correct time would i have met the people that i met, did i only meet them because things went wrong?
when going for a job interview and you don't get the job but a few days later a new job comes up that is more suited to you, was this meant to happen?
when couples break up is this because it wasn't meant to be and because those people are meant to find someone else that they end up spending the rest of their lives with?
But then what about people who develop cancer, what about children who are born with an terminal illness, was it not the right time for them? This simply cannot be true
What about accidents where people don't survive? was this meant to happen to people at some point in their lives?
what about people that go to war and are left disabled was it their time?
Then there is the people who battle an illness and make a recovery? was it because they was strong or was it because they was set out to get better, to live on?
When we are born our are lives really mapped out for us? are we born to achieve or do we push ourselves to achieve?
Do things happen to us to make us realise how much stronger we are than we thought, or is it just to punish us for something we did once before?
The answer is i don't know, there are alot of aspects to my life that i think couldn't possible have happened by chance and that it was meant to turn out that way but then there alot of aspects that i think i didn't deserve this to happen and why would i want it to so it cant happen for a reason.
